Why Donate?

SchoolsRule Sonoma County offers a unique opportunity: a single gift can help support students in public schools countywide. By investing in local education, you’re not just supporting one program — you’re helping shape the future of our entire community. Keep reading to learn what sets SchoolsRule Sonoma County apart!
1. A donation to SchoolsRule Sonoma County helps enhance learning opportunities for every student in our county’s public school system. Our community provides the funds; we distribute them to local education foundations and school districts throughout the county on a per-student basis. Check out the Our Impact page to see how we’re mapping investments in our county’s 65,000 students.

2. SchoolsRule Sonoma County empowers local education foundations and school leaders to invest funds where their students need it the most. While we require recipients to spend funds along our four focus areas — literacy, student well-being, agriculture and hospitality, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) — we provide them flexibility in how they allocate their distribution. We check in regularly with our recipients to answer questions and track their progress.
3. When you give to SchoolsRule Sonoma County, every penny makes its way into local classrooms. Because SchoolsRule is housed under the Sonoma County Office of Education, whose staff handles the day-to-day operations, no donations go toward staff salaries or operational costs. Visit the Who We Are page to learn who’s involved and how we got started.

4. SchoolsRule Sonoma County is a reliable and trusted giving option. We’re modeled after SchoolsRule-Marin, an initiative that has distributed more than $9 million for students since 2012. We’re also backed by some of our region’s most established businesses and community leaders. See who is already giving to SchoolsRule here.
5. We partner with local education foundations to not only distribute funds and track investments in local students, but to bolster their local fundraising efforts. We accomplish this through regular education foundation meetings where organizers can learn from experts and their peers about fundraising, community outreach, and more.
